Ceremonial chocolate rituals that bring you gently into your heart

Cacao Ceremonies

Cacao opens our heart, with ‘earth medicine,’ and holds us in a sacred & safe space where we’re able to feel & express more deeply, creating an opportunity for deep healing to take place.

Think of hot chocolate but made in a ceremonial way. Cacao is the minimally processed version of chocolate that still retains all of its physical & spiritual health benefits. The cacao used in our ceremonies is sourced from a Mayan family in Guatemala – Ruk'u'x Ulew Ceremonial Cacao Paste – who treat it with the utmost care, love and respect.

~ What are the benefits? ~

Cacao has Theobromine, an enzyme that acts as a vasodilator, which opens your arteries and your heart, which allows for better blood circulation and uplifts your mood. Then there’s anandamide, otherwise known as the bliss chemical (ananda = bliss), which helps to provide feelings of peace, comfort and even euphoria.

In addition, cacao contains a large amount of vitamins & minerals such as magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium and manganese. Cacao is considered to be one of the most powerful sources of magnesium on the planet, which is a master mineral in that it helps us to better absorb all other nutrients.

The physical benefits are just the beginning. Cacao has the capacity to heal on every level: Emotional cleansing, clearing, processing grief, physical release, spiritual healing, clarity, purpose, opening up to giving & receiving love, etc.

Every ceremony will involve guided meditation and breathing to drop into our body and heart-space. In this space we feel into and set our intentions for the ceremony – What does our heart truly seek? What is ready to be felt or expressed? Where does our healing lie? When our intentions are made clear, we bless our cacao with words of gratitude and then we drink.

Cacao ceremonies are intuitively led. The spirit of cacao may lead us into movement like yoga or dance, talking about whatever’s on our heart, diving deeper into gaining clarity, clearing or cleansing energy, leading us to forgive ourselves or others, or feeling & expressing our emotions.

Oracle cards may be used as a way to connect with our highest & purest spirit guides and angels to give us direction in our lives at that time in a way that leads us to our highest & purest good.

No two ceremonies are ever the same. There is always something to be gained or released from this sacred space.

~ Where does it come from? ~

Cacao is a form of plant medicine as old as the earth itself. Most people know of it in its highly processed form as ‘chocolate.’ Cacao Ceremony traditions have been passed down by indigenous people, particularly the Mayans and Aztecs of Central & South America. They believed all food and drink of the earth to be medicinal in some way, especially cacao because they believed it held the spirit of the earth within it, “Mama Cacao.” This spirit, which is divine feminine in nature, is considered to be “heart medicine” that opens our heart to transmute & transform pain, trauma, illness and grief into love, awareness, acceptance, forgiveness and healing.

Bitter, earthy, creamy. Think of the darkest dark chocolate you’ve ever had, but in liquid form. It’s an acquired taste for some, but naturally liked by others. Typically cacao is not sweetened in ceremony so that the bitter taste shines through, however a natural sweetener such as honey may be used if needed. Foods with bitter tastes are actually healing for the heart.

Other spices such as cinnamon and cayenne may be added as well. Cinnamon softens the bitterness a little and adds some nutty, sweet flavor, while cayenne gives it a spicy kick and actually accelerates the heart-opening process.
